Welcome to the Social Media for Home-Based Business Blog!

This project supports migrant women from the Lakemba area of NSW to develop a strong and creative social media presence for their home-based business. The project is design and delivered by a partnership between Canterbury City Community Centre and Sydney Community College and is funded by the National VET E-learning Strategy's Partnerships for Participation program.

CALD migrant women in the Lakemba area are motivated to improve their families’ lives by starting or improving a home-based business and require training and support to realise their ambitions.  Social media provides home-based business with a low-cost or free platform through which to promote products and services.  Our program aims to provide the skills required to plan and implement a creative social media strategy.

The program will be delivered over 10 weeks and we’ll use a combination of face to face training and social media tools to connect, communicate and learn.

Let’s meet the team!  Click on their names to learn more about what they do when they’re not working on this project!

  7. Hi, I'm Pei-Shan. I created www.ashnjuls.com.au about three years ago offering alternative and affordable eco products to like-minded families. I hope to learn effective ways of engaging my customers in social media from this course. I started promoting my business facebook page last year but still not sure how to get customers to 'like' me. I see my competitors giving out big discounts through their facebook page but I don't really want to go down that track because all my prices are very reasonable already. I do however, give away one product every week to one lucky customer who leave comments on certain post. I use You Tube to demonstrate how to use my products, which I find to be a great tool. I would like to learn how to make Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and You Tube work effectively together.

  16. Most people misunderstand the phrase "home based business". They think that these businesses will earn them only a few dollars and will be quite lower than their regular income. The story is actually quite different. Most people who start a home based business end up earning money which is much beyond their regular income.
